Bunku Privacy Policy
Bunku is an offline-first attendance tracker for students. This policy explains exactly what the app does and does not do with your information. In short: your attendance data stays on your device, there is no account, and the only data that ever leaves your phone is anonymous, opt-out diagnostics.
Your attendance stays on your device
Your subjects, attendance logs, timetable and settings are stored only on your phone. They are never uploaded to any server — there is no cloud sync and no online account. (Pro's Backup & Restore feature lets you move your data yourself, via a file you create and control; that file is never sent to us.)
No account, no personal data
There is no sign-up or login. We never ask for your name, email address or phone number. We never sell your data.
Advertising
The current version of Bunku does not display ads. We reserve the right to introduce ads in a future version of the app. If and when ads are added:
- Ads will be served through a third-party ad network (such as Google AdMob), which may use device identifiers (e.g. Android Advertising ID) to deliver relevant ads.
- You will be able to opt out of personalised ads through your device's advertising settings (Settings → Google → Ads → Delete advertising ID or equivalent).
- This privacy policy will be updated before ads are introduced, and a "Last updated" date change will reflect the addition.
Anonymous analytics & crash reports
To fix crashes and understand which features are used, Bunku sends anonymous, aggregated diagnostics through Google Firebase (Analytics & Crashlytics) — for example, that a class was marked or that the upgrade screen was shown. This never includes your subject names, notes, attendance figures, or anything that identifies you.
You can turn this off at any time from Settings → Privacy Policy → "Share anonymous analytics". Switching it off stops all collection on your device.
Purchases
Bunku Pro is a one-time purchase. The transaction is processed by Google Play; Google Play handles your payment and we never see or store your payment details. We use RevenueCat as our billing infrastructure to confirm and remember whether Pro has been unlocked. For this, RevenueCat receives an anonymous, randomly-generated app user identifier and your purchase status — never your name, email, or attendance data. "Restore Purchases" uses the same mechanism to re-grant Pro on a new device.
Permissions
- Internet — used only to send the anonymous diagnostics described above and to verify your Pro purchase.
- Notifications — requested only if you enable attendance reminders. You can revoke it at any time in your system settings.
Children's privacy
Bunku is a general-audience app aimed at college and university students. It does not knowingly collect personal information from children, and it collects no personal information from anyone.
Deleting your data
"Reset all data" in Settings permanently erases everything from your device. Uninstalling the app also removes all local data. Because nothing is stored on a server, there is no further copy for us to delete.
Third-party services
These are the only third parties currently involved, and their own policies apply to the limited data above:
- Google Firebase (Analytics & Crashlytics) — Firebase privacy
- Google Play Billing — Google privacy
- RevenueCat (purchase verification) — RevenueCat privacy
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, we will update this page and the "Last updated" date above. Material changes will also be reflected in the in-app Privacy screen.
